Worship

At the heart of First Pres is the worshiping community affirming the inclusive love of God, which we believe is best made known through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. That love makes a difference in our lives and challenges us to make a difference in the world. In each of our Sunday services, we hear the reading of Scripture, a message reflective of Biblical scholarship and music designed to inspire us as we work to incorporate our faith into our lives each week. Church members serve as lay liturgists and provide faithful leadership at our services.
We invite you to come and visit us! We worship on Sundays at 11 AM in our Sanctuary. At First Pres, folks wear everything from jeans to more dressy clothes, so please wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable. When you arrive, please enter through the door at the rear of the building, facing Exchange Ave. Free parking is available in the parking lot behind the church. We have a staffed nursery available for children 6 and under to spend the worship hour.

Our Worship Style
We believe that worship should truly be focused on God. Every part of our worship should reflect praise, honor, glory, and power belonging to God alone. We believe that God is actively involved in our lives, and that worship is our response to God’s active presence in our lives. As we worship, we remember God’s response to God’s faithfulness throughout history, in our own lives, and in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. When we recognize and confess our brokenness, we hear God’s assurance of forgiveness in worship.
We listen to the Word of God read and proclaimed through scripture, and we pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten us to hear and be faithful to its message for us.
We seek God’s will, whilst praying for the church and the needs of the world around us. Finally, we allow God to guide us back into the world to live as forgiven, transformed servants.
At First Presbyterian Church, our worship services contain: the Word of God, praise, a sermon, confession, prayer, assurance, thanksgiving, and illumination.
